You Can Fight Back Against Annoying Random Text Messages

Papa John’s Pizza Says Ouch! Whoever thought text messages offering special deals on pizzas would be a bad thing? A class-action lawsuit has been filed against Papa John’s for sending illegal messages to their potential clients. Plaintiffs are claiming that while they originally provided their cell phone numbers to the take-out pizza chain, they did not consent to receive advertisements via text message. Some members of the class-action suit reportedly received multiple texts back-to-back, and also at odd hours of the night. Plaintiffs are seeking compensation at the rate of $500 to $1500 per text message.
School District Sued For Employing Registered Sex Offender

A lawsuit has been filed against an Alabama school district by the parents of four children who claim their children were molested by a registered sex offender hired by the district. The parents of the girls have filed a lawsuit against the County Board of Education, the offender, and two school board members in Federal Court.
The molester is serving a prison sentence for abusing another child, who is also a Plaintiff in the case. Although the school board was informed by the state that the employee was a sex offender, the Board kept him on staff after the incident. He abused 20 more children before being terminated.

Energy drinks are experiencing a lot of backlashfor the negative side effects people are falling subject to. The biggest crusade lawmakers are embarking on is reducing the amount of caffeine these drinks contain. Reports claim that energy drinks related to emergency room visits have doubled from 10,000 in 2007 to 20,000 in 2011. The biggest cause of the E.R. visits is caffeine overload. Many of these energy drinks can contain up to 3 times as much caffeine as a regular cup of coffee!!
United States Justice Department Arrests 5 For Importing Hazardous Toys

The U.S. Department of Justice has charged five people with importing hazardous toys from China. According to the indictment, the Defendants sold illegally-imported toxic toys, under the names of the companies named as Defendants, out of a storefront and it’s warehouse located in New York.
The Justice Department claims that the Defendants moved their operations on several occasions in order to avoid detection by the law, while continuing to sell counterfeit toys featuring Dora theExplorer, SpongeBob SquarePants, and other popular characters to the public at large.
Fraternity Party Death Sparks $24 Million Lawsuit

A $24 million lawsuit has been filed by the parents of a college student who was killed at a fraternity party in Rochester, New York last year. The victim was a 20-year-old University of Rochester student who was stabbed to death at a fraternity party.
The lawsuit names the university, the fraternity, and the killer as defendants, alleging that the school and the fraternity were negligent for failing to take actions to prevent underage drinking on campus and minimize the possibility of violence at the party. The victim’s killer was 20 at the time of the incident and had been drinking at the party prior to the stabbing.

Iraq Soldiers Win $85 Million Suit Against Defense Contractor KBR

Defense contractor KBR was ordered to pay $85 million to several National Guard soldiers who were exposed to a cancer-causing agent while serving in Iraq. The suit, the first of its kind against a contractor by service members, was filed by 12 soldiers who were exposed to the anti-corrosion agent sodium dichromate, known to contain carcinogens, while serving in Iraq in 2003.
The judge ordered that each soldier would be given $850,000 in compensatory damages and $6.25 million in punitive damages. KBR knowingly added toxic chemicals to the water. The carcinogen was found to be in many areas of the compound where the soldiers were living including where they ate their meals!!

920,000 Jeeps Recalled By Chrysler

Chrysler has announced the recall of 920,000 Jeeps to investigate possible faulty electrical problems which have caused 215 unintended airbag deployments, according to a news release by the company. The vehicles subject to the recall include the 2002-04 Jeep Grand Cherokee model and 2002-03 Jeep Liberty model vehicles, which were sold in the United States and Canada.
