MOVIE LAWSUIT – WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM FILED AGAINST “STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON” CAST

The wife of a man who died after rapper Suge Knight ran him over with a pick-up truck during the filming of the movie Straight Outta Compton has filed a lawsuit. The suit blames Universal Studios and rappers Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and Suge Knight for recklessly going ahead with the filming of the movie, despite the longstanding tension between Knight and Dr. Dre. Oh boy!

DOG BITE CASES – NEW YORK PAYS $150,000 TO DOG ATTACK VICTIM

The town of Hamburg, New York was recently found liable for failure to protect an 82 year-old resident from her neighbor’s dog, a highly aggressive Pit-Bull. The City was on notice of the complaints. The victim suffered severe and serious injuries from the attack.

JURY AWARDS $21 MILLION TO VICTIMS OF DUI CRASH

A jury in Los Angeles has awarded $21 million to several family members who were involved in a DUI crash on Super Bowl Sunday in 2011. The family was driving to Los Angeles to drop off their child at his college. An SUV sped into the family’s Ford Taurus in a violent head-on collision. The car crash left the victims with multiple fractures and permanent scarring about the body.

MLB: MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL MASCOT NOT LIABLE FOR FAN HOT DOG THROW INJURY

Royals mascot Slugger was not at fault for an injury that occurred in 2009 when a fan was struck by a hot dog tossed by the mascot, a jury decided recently. The Royal’s fan sued the team after being hit in the eye with a foil wrapped hot dog.

POLICE ANNOUNCE ROVING DUI PATROLS IN PITTSBURGH

Recently the City of Pittsburgh Police announced they will be conducting sobriety checkpoints and roving DUI patrols from 11 p.m to 4 a.m.in the South Hills and West End. Ever wonder why the police would state in the newspaper what they are going to do if they are trying to catch drunk drivers? Well the Courts have ruled that the police must provide notice to the community and City before setting up roving DUI patrol checkpoints.

LEARNING LAW 101 – STATUTE OF LIMITATION IN CIVIL CASES

Normally, the statute of limitations is two years from the date of the accident in which to bring a lawsuit. However, if you are suing a governmental unit, you have to provide notice to them within 6 months of the incident or your case can be dismissed.
