#1 RULE IN A SUCCESSFUL LAW PRACTICE

Last week Duquesne Law School asked me and several other lawyers to talk to the law students about what it takes to have a successful law firm.  Young law students are obviously thinking about a couple of years down the road when they are going to go out and practice law.  They wanted to know how one could run a successful law practice, if that is the type of law they are going to pursue.

We knew the night before what the topic of discussion would be.  The point was how to communicate that to the students in a way they would understand.

I tried a different approach.  Instead of telling them all the nuts and bolts about running a law practice and being your own boss, I tried to do something else.  I told them that the #1 thing, in my opinion, to be in a successful career and trial attorney is to care for your clients.  That seems so basic, right?  But a lot of times it isn’t.  I told the students that unless the clients felt and sensed that you cared for them as people, it was likely that they would never refer you new cases in the future.  Of course, clients are only going to refer friends, neighbors and relatives to an attorney they feel cares about them as people.

I told the law students that whether they know the law or not, whether they are articulate in the courtroom or not, whether they can think on their feet under pressure or not, is not as important as that singular quality of caring for the client.  All else pales by comparison.

However, if the client feels you are just using them to get a settlement and make money on them, even if you are successful, you are not going to get repeat clients.  It just doesn’t work that way.

Pittsburgh wrongful death, auto accident and slip and fall attorney Bernie Tully has one quality which we believe stands out from all others in client representation.  That quality is caring for the client.  You will know it immediately upon being retained as one of our clients.  It is not just myself that will care for you and your case.  Rather it is also our entire staff including our paralegals and our secretary.

Why not give us a try and see if what I am talking about is true or not.  If it is not, change attorneys and go with someone else concerning your wrongful death, auto accident  or slip and fall case.  However, if you do retain us we think it’s clear that you will be satisfied with our work.

Well, that’s all for now.  Do you think the Steelers are going to make the playoffs this year?  It is pretty unlikely they are going to catch the Bengals to win their division.  However, a lot of times the team with the best record is not the team that ultimately advances to the playoffs.

Thanks for reading.
