Which Way Is Faster?

Okay you are a hotshot attorney who just passed the Pennsylvania bar exam.

You got a job working for a law firm.

But your real passion is to get into the courtroom and try cases.

So the question becomes how do you get in quickly?

Do you get in the courtroom quicker if you work for a defense firm or a plaintiff’s firm?

A defense firm represents people who are sued.

They are hired by and paid by insurance companies.

At least in many circles they wear the black hats.

But that’s just coming from the perspective of someone who represents injured people.

No offense meant to them because there are many very fine people who are defense attorneys.

Plaintiff’s law firms represent people who are hurt in auto accidents.

At least in the circle that Pittsburgh wrongful death, medical malpractice, slip and fall, car accident and criminal defense attorney Bernie Tully runs in, they are the ones who wear the white hats.

Or so we think.

Anyway who gets in the courtroom quicker?

In Pittsburgh wrongful death, medical malpractice, car accident and criminal defense attorney Bernie Tully‘s mind this is an easy one.

Attorneys in plaintiff’s law firms get into court MUCH quicker than if you work for defense firm.

In fact there was just an article in the newspaper recently by a fourth-year post law school female defense attorney who was just second seating another attorney in her first trial.

Is that a joke?
Four years out of law school and you’re just getting in the courtroom for the first time second seating another attorney?

That would never happen if you were working in a two or three member plaintiff’s law firm.

The likelihood is that you would be in court within several months after graduating from law school.

Pittsburgh wrongful death, medical malpractice, car accident and criminal defense attorney Bernie Tully will tell you from personal experience that you’ll be given the worst case in the office to try.

But it will be your own case.

You will not be second seating anybody. The case will be all be yours to win or lose.

You will not get a lot of sleep during the trial. Your stomach will be tied in knots during most of the time and you will be under a lot of stress.

But if you like this kind of work that is being in the courtroom you’ll be loving it the whole time.

The point of this blog is that if you’re a young hotshot lawyer who wants to get in the courtroom ASAP the quickest way for that to happen is to join a two or three member plaintiff’s law firm.

Plus you’ll be wearing the white hat!

And there is something be said for that.

Well that’s it for now.

How do you think the Pens are doing in the playoffs?

Thanks for reading.

See you soon.

Bernie the attorney.
