VALUED READERS: Did you have a great Christmas and Happy New Year?
I honestly hope you did. Thank you for reading our Newsletter each month and a special thanks to some of our past clients who recently referred us new injury clients: Brian L., Arla P., Shane P., and Matthew R. If I left anyone out, please forgive me and kindly call us so we can acknowledge YOU!
WHAT IS MY ATTORNEY UP TO?
I was recently asked by the Allegheny County Bar Association to write an article for Newly Admitted and Small Firm lawyers about opening a law practice. My article “11 Ideas For Starting A Law Practice” appeared in the November, 2017 issue of Lawyers Journal. If you want to read the article kindly go to my website at www.telltully.net. Thanks
MAN AWARDED $8.5 MILLION AFTER BEING CRUSHED BY 2,800 POUND TRANSFORMER
A man crushed and severely injured by an electrical transformer weighing nearly 2,800 pounds has been awarded $8.5 million by a jury in Pennsylvania. This award confirms that when you are seriously hurt at work, you may be able to pursue an additional case beyond Worker’s Compensation if the manufacturer or third party company involved is at fault.
$17 MILLION SETTLEMENT FOR MAN PARALYZED BY FALLING MACHINERY
A man who was hit in the head by a falling trolley boom lift – a type of crane attached to a truck – has settled his personal injury case for $17 million. The man sued the manufacturer of the machine that caused his paralysis. The issue became whether the machine itself was designed in a defective way and whether the manufacturer of the machine could have prevented a tragedy like this. We welcome any work related injury (workers comp) case or commutation (lump sum) inquiry.
$120 MILLION IGNITION SWITCH SETTLEMENT WITH STATE
This agreement ends allegations that General Motors concealed an ignition-switch defect. This came 3 years after G.M. issued recalls for more than 9 million cars in the United States for a defect that could cause cars to suddenly lose their electrical systems. The settlement also requires G.M. to force dealers to complete recall repairs before making a car eligible for certification or delivering them to a new customer.
CRIMINAL LAW – IMPORTANT CHANGE
Effective January 1, 2018, police who want to get an arrest warrant or search warrant for a Defendant will be allowed to call the Magistrate in order to swear out a warrant. Before this, the police officer had to physically appear at the Magistrate’s office to get the warrant signed.
LAWYER CAUGHT IN THE ACT
If anyone thinks that lawyers do not screw up, consider this: A New Jersey attorney wearing nothing below his waist but high-heels, allegedly walked into an unsuspecting couple’s home in that outfit. He was later discovered asleep in his vehicle in another client’s driveway. GEEZ.
Congratulations To: Holly P. for winning our $50 cash award by correctly answering last month’s Newsletter question. Way to go Holly!
