Philadelphia, PA (June 15, 2025) – Philadelphia police are investigating a deadly hit-and-run in North Philadelphia.
According to police, it happened at 12:15 a.m. in the 2700 block of North Broad Street on Sunday, June 15. A man in his 60s was crossing North Broad Street when he was hit. Officials are still waiting to identify the victim.
The victim was rushed to Temple Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Police said car parts and some personal items in bags the victim was holding were left behind at the scene.
Police do have a partial description of the striking vehicle and said they are looking for a black SUV, possibly a Buick or Chevrolet. It was last seen heading towards West Lehigh Ave. Officers are still looking for more surveillance in the area of what happened. However, anyone with information is urged to contact the Crash Investigation Division.
We extend our deepest condolences to the deceased man’s family members.
Pedestrian Crashes in Pennsylvania
Pedestrian-vehicle collisions are on the rise throughout Pennsylvania. From Philadelphia’s bustling intersections to quiet suburban crosswalks, people on foot face daily threats from speeding motorists, distracted drivers, and poorly marked or maintained roadways. The consequences are often devastating: life-altering injuries, overwhelming medical bills, and—in the worst cases—the loss of a loved one.
Common causes include:
- Driver negligence — speeding, texting, failure to yield, and driving under the influence.
- Poor visibility and bad weather — dark, rainy, or icy conditions make it harder for motorists to spot pedestrians in time.
- Inadequate infrastructure — faded crosswalk lines, malfunctioning signals, and missing signage can all contribute to preventable crashes.
Under Pennsylvania law, injured pedestrians may seek compensation for hospital expenses, future medical care, lost wages, pain, suffering, and other losses. Building a strong claim typically hinges on timely evidence: police reports, eyewitness statements, traffic camera or surveillance footage, and detailed medical records.
If an insurer tries to downplay liability—or if a wrongful death claim is necessary—an experienced attorney can gather critical proof, negotiate firmly, and, when needed, fight in court for full and fair damages. With strict time limits (generally two years from the collision) and vital evidence that can disappear quickly, acting promptly is essential.
