Philadelphia, PA – Woman Seriously Hurt in Hit-and-Run on 13th St

Philadelphia, PA (June 30, 2025) – Police are still searching for the driver of a vehicle that hit an elderly woman and fled the scene on Saturday afternoon, June 28.

At around 2:30 p.m., 70-year-old Doris Jones was seen on local surveillance footage crossing the intersection of 13th and West Somerset Streets. Shortly thereafter, the driver of a silver KIA sedan was seen making a right onto West Somerset, heading towards Broad Street, before crashing into a store and pinning Jones against the front door.

Jones was rushed to the hospital, where her current condition remains unknown. In the meantime, the investigation into the incident is ongoing, and witnesses were asked to come forward.

Our thoughts are with the injured woman and her family in hopes of her full recovery.

Pedestrian Crashes in Pennsylvania

Pedestrian accidents are a growing concern across Pennsylvania, with many incidents resulting in serious injuries or even fatalities. Whether on busy city streets or in suburban neighborhoods, pedestrians are vulnerable to reckless drivers, poorly maintained crosswalks, and other hazards. If you or a loved one has been injured in a pedestrian accident, understanding your rights is essential to securing fair compensation.

Many pedestrian accidents occur due to driver negligence. Speeding, distracted driving, failure to yield at crosswalks, and impaired driving are leading factors. Additionally, poor visibility at night and inclement weather can increase risks for those walking along roadways. In some cases, defective traffic signals or poorly marked crosswalks contribute to these tragic incidents.

Pennsylvania law protects pedestrians injured due to a driver’s negligence. Victims may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other damages. The legal process can be complex, requiring strong evidence such as police reports, witness statements, and surveillance footage to build a solid claim.

Navigating the aftermath of a loved one’s death in a pedestrian accident can be overwhelming, especially when dealing with insurance companies that may try to minimize or deny claims. An experienced legal team can assess your case, negotiate with insurers, and, if necessary, take your case to court to seek the compensation you deserve.
