Pedestrian Accidents in Pennsylvania
Pedestrian accidents remain a serious and ongoing problem across Pennsylvania. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, hundreds of pedestrian-involved crashes occur each year, many of which result in devastating or fatal injuries. Contributing factors often include distracted driving, speeding, failure to yield at crosswalks, and impaired driving.
Dangerous conditions such as poor lighting, icy or uneven roadways, and insufficient signage also increase risks for pedestrians statewide. Because pedestrians lack the protection of a vehicle, the injuries sustained in these accidents are often catastrophic. Victims may suffer traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord damage, broken bones, internal bleeding, or fatal injuries. Survivors frequently face long-term medical treatment, surgeries, and rehabilitation, which can affect their quality of life and ability to return to work. For families, the physical, emotional, and financial toll can be overwhelming.
Under Pennsylvania law, injured pedestrians have the right to pursue compensation when a driver’s negligence causes harm. Filing a personal injury claim can help cover medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and long-term care needs. In tragic cases involving a wrongful death, families may also seek damages for funeral costs, loss of income, and loss of companionship. Insurance companies often attempt to minimize payouts by disputing fault or downplaying injuries. Working with a knowledgeable pedestrian accident attorney ensures your case is thoroughly investigated, evidence is preserved, and your rights are protected. The sooner you secure legal help, the stronger your claim can be.
