Q: Attorney Tully, I am charged with indecent assault and possession with intent to deliver drugs. Should I go with a private attorney or a public defender? Please advise.

A: My answer may surprise you. In my experience, public defenders are just as qualified as private attorneys (like myself) inside the courtroom. The biggest criticism I have heard regarding public defenders is they don’t have enough time to investigate and prepare their cases like private attorneys do. That is certainly not their fault. If you feel comfortable with a public defender, by all means go that route. How is that for losing a client fee? Bernie
