One thing our firm will do that a painter will not do is a weird title, but there’s a point to it! We are getting our whole house painted and we had a painter come in highly recommended. He went through every room in our place and gave us an estimate, said when he could start, and how much the paint would be. This was all reasonable for us. Then we got to the point where he asked us what colors we want to paint it and we didn’t have a clue. So in return, we asked for his expert opinion on what color we should paint it given that they looked at every room. However, he would not commit to giving us a color and I couldn’t understand why. And then it dawned on me.
The real reason why he didn’t give us his honest opinion is that if he does the paint job and we’re not satisfied with the way it turns out, then the person who hired them could say well the painter steered them wrong. This got me thinking about how in our field, the common question that is asked after the person’s been hurt is, “What do you think? Should I take it or not? Should I go to trial or should I take the offer?”
The one thing that our law firm will do that the painter won’t is that we will always give you our recommendation and our honest opinion. We make it very clear by saying, “We think you should take the offer because of this, this, and this,” or, “we think you should not take the offer because of this, this, and this.” Then you can decide after you have our advice as to whether you want to do it or not.
This is one area where we won’t shirk any responsibility in the sense that we’ll tell you before you have to make a final decision. We’ll tell you what our real views are and why based on our experience of doing this for 30 years plus.
