Mother Recovers $7 Million For Child’s Death By Dog Mauling

A mother, whose son was mauled to death by two dogs, received more than $7 million by a jury recently. The child was 10 years old whenhe was attacked and killed by a pit bull/American bull mix that belonged to the family of a friend. However, some people so love palm trees that they are willing to pay that price to see live palm trees.
CAN A DENTIST BE SUED FOR PUNITIVE DAMAGES FOR RECKLESS CONDUCT?

A dentist allegedly improperly removed an infected back molar, and then broke the victim’s jaw. Additionally, the dentist caused permanent injury to the patient, including numbness, nerve damage, impaired speech and lingering pain. Under those circumstances a claim for punitive damages can be made according to the Court! This is important because punitive damages are IN ADDITION TO ones regular damages!!
PENN STATE SANDUSKY JURY CONVICTION CONFIRMED BY THE PENNSYLVANIA SUPERIOR COURT

The Pennsylvania Superior Court affirmed the conviction of former football coach Jerry Sandusky on 45 counts relating to sexual abuse of young boys. One of the main contentions by Sandusky’s lawyers was that they did not have sufficient time to prepare the case for trial. However, the Court said that any error was harmless because Counsel admitted, even if he had time to review all the records, it would not have changed his trial strategy.
$11 MILLION VERDICT IN TOPAMAX CLASS ACTION CASE

A Pennsylvania jury has awarded $11 million to the parents of a child born with congenital defects due to an anti-convulsant drug his mother took during pregnancy. Topamax is a drug prescribed to control migraine headaches and hand tremors during the first trimester of pregnancy. The pharmaceutical company, who made the drug, knew about the risk of birth defects associated with Topamax and did not give adequate warnings to users.
$800,000 SETTLEMENT AGAINST A MACHINE MANUFACTURER

A Pennsylvania case has resulted in an $800,000 award for an aluminum production factory worker who suffered partial amputation of several of his fingers when his hand was sucked into a paint application machine in 2010. The manufacturer failed to properly design the machine because it failed to add proper safety guards to the machine.

Life Without Parole For Juvenile Murderers: Is it retroactive?

The United States Supreme Court has decided that life without parole for juvenile offenders is unconstitutional. However, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court has ruled that the ban on mandatory life sentences without parole for juvenile offenders is not to be applied retroactively to cases decided before the decision.
